As Shakespeare stated in Romeo and Juliet … “A plague on both of your houses”

We need less studies, and more action, towards job creation
Today the CBC came out with the story … “BC income gap getting worse”.  In it, they stated:
The first measurement looks at household income and found that BC is second only to Alberta as having the greatest inequality of any province.

In the second measurement, BC ranked dead last, having the biggest gap between the top and bottom 20 per cent of income earners.

The report notes that the gap has increased since the early 1990s and that other provinces have had more success redistributing income through taxes and benefits.
Ouch … redistribution of wealth!!!  Redistribution of wealth is not the answer!

YES … we do need to have social programs that help those individuals, and families, who are in need and are unable to provide the necessities they require (food and shelter).  Redistribution of wealth however should not be taking from one group to give to another.

To reduce the necessity to provide what is needed for those on low or no incomes, we need a vigorous and aggressive plan to get BC moving forward with good quality high pay jobs in traditional areas that have always provided them … as well as in the new technologies.

Those of us in the middle class are getting squeezed tighter and tighter with higher fees and taxes --- and no resulting / corresponding increases in wages to meet these increased costs.

I don't blame small business as I believe they are finding it harder and harder to stay afloat ... and big business has far too much paper work to process to grow.  On top of that, any business or industry that wants to start something new, ends up with years of mandated and required studies, from overlapping levels of government, that drain from any potential return on their investment.

And back to the middle class for a moment ... why is it that government thinks we are a well to be drained faster than it can be re-filled?  It’s because we have quietly allowed them to do so --- and it’s time we stood up and said “NO MORE!”

Here is something to note … the period looked at for this study covered the 1990's to the present --- years we have had provincial governments run by both the NDP & Liberals.

BC Liberals say that government must put families first in all decision-making, and qualify that by saying:
  • making life a little more affordable for everyday families
  • keeping our commitments to senior citizens
  • protecting our environment and staying committed to clean air and clean water
  • making sure our health care system is second to none and that health care is sustainable for future generations
  • keeping families and communities safe by fighting crime
  • strengthening public education so students are prepared for the jobs of tomorrow
So far I have not seen strong evidence of this happening ... in fact, in many cases, we have been seeing the exact opposite.

What do the NDP stand for??  Here what their website states:
The NDP is a place where people come together to work for a better future -- one where social and economic justice are the guiding principles.

As social democrats we believe in a balanced and responsible approach to government, so that people can enjoy a strong economy, healthy communities, and a clean, sustainable environment.

New Democrats work together to make sure that the needs and aspirations of ordinary people -- in British Columbia and across Canada -- are effectively represented in the political process.
We have had successive governments led by both the NDP, and by the Liberals, and what has it gotten us.

Twenty years of increased deficits and near crippling debt … huge economic development projects grounded and stalled in red tape and studies … longer and longer waiting lines for health care … criminals turned loose because of a lack of resources in the justice system … and now with mounting taxes and fees on the middle class, we have returned to the days when more people are leaving the province, than are moving here.

This is a tragedy for a province as diverse and rich as British Columbia is. NEITHER the NDP or the Liberals deserve, or should be allowed, to govern.  Both have proven they are unable to do so … in a way that is for the betterment of all citizens.

In July of last year Rafe Mair stated:
I leave you with this thought. This government is ashamed of their policy, and just like the kid with jam all his face denying he's been in the jam jar, it has no defence except to bluff its way through. I feel that the public has a right to say of them, using W.A.C. Bennett's phrase, "You couldn't run a peanut stand."
And ditto for the NDP, as they showed us in the 1990’s, they couldn’t run a peanut stand either.  As Shakespeare stated in Romeo and Juliet … “A plague on both of your houses

We need to get BC moving forward again in a positive way --- and to do that we need fresh new common sense ideas.  Here are two obvious facts that have been stated by John Cummins, leader of the BC Conservatives:

The simple truth is that we need to get spending under control. In times of economic uncertainty, the people of this province need to know that the government can make fiscally responsible choices.”

… BC is a great place to live and should be attracting young people wanting exciting careers, but the Liberal government’s anti-growth policies force them choose other provinces like Alberta or Saskatchewan. Young people should be the fastest growing segment of our population. The new BC Conservative party will restore pro-growth government to Victoria and attract young people to BC ..."

It’s time for change.
